Kirk Patrick Arnett, CCP, D.B.A. is a full professor of Information Systems for Mississippi State University's College of Business and Industry in the Department of Management and Information Systems and the University's Faculty Athletic Representative, serves the major advising and coordination role for the Masters of Science in Information Systems program. Prior to his 20 years of service with the College of Business and Industry, Dr. Arnett worked in the information processing area for 17 years.

Teaching highlights include the College of Business and Industry Outstanding Faculty Member Award, Outstanding Research Award, Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award for 1995/96, the Thomas Hinkle Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award in 1988, Being twice awarded the Outsatnding College of Business and Industry Service Award, being twice honored for teaching excellence by the Elder Statesmen Society, being honored as a distinguished scholar by the Mortar Board, and being awarded national academic advisor of the year by the National Academic Advisors Association in 1997. Graduate student work includes chairing 12 doctoral dissertations, 14 masters theses, 8 computer science directed projects, and being a committee member for more than 100 other dissertations and masters theses. Undergraduate courses include Management Information Systems, MIS Senior Seminar, COBOL, Systems Analysis and Design, Intro to Business Computer Systems, Advanced COBOL, Visual Basic, Database Design, and Business Statistics. Graduate courses include Management Information Systems, MIS Administration, Advanced Systems Analysis, Advanced Database Administration, E-Commerce, Information Systems Security, and Managing Technology.

Special Teaching Strengths appear in two courses that are currently taught: Business Database Systems and E-Commerce Seminar. The database course exposes undergraduate students to SQL in an Unix/Oracle environment, Microsoft Access, and Web-enabled databases; this course changes quickly so that students maintain pace with the ever changing job skill mix. Students in the seminar course will fine tune their technical skills before graduation and to emphasize special skills that have surfaced in job market research and on visits and interviews with employers.

Research and creative achievement highlights include over 125 publications through journals, proceedings, and miscellaneous academic outlets, and several funded grants for research, service, and teaching. Received the College of Business and Industry Outstanding Research Award in 1994 and the COBI Ralph Powe Research Award in 2004. Current research interests include detailed site visits and interviews to examine telecommunication and e-business facilities in the mid-size business arena, and human resource issues in IT jobs. In addition to multiple publications in academic journals such as Communications of the ACM, Information and Management, International Journal of Man-Machine Studies, and Electronic Markets,  research work has been referenced in popular press such as Computerworld, Datamation, The Wall Street Journal, and Information Week.

Advising and service highlights include the College of Business and Industry Outstanding Service Award for 1990-1991 and again in 2000-2001, Mississippi State University Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Service in Academic Advising for 1995, and Who's Who in the Computer Industry Award for 1989 and 1990.  Advised 4 student association organizations, served on 20 University committees, many College and Departmental committees, and directed the College of Business and Industry local area network (COBILAN) and associated laboratories for two years. Professional presentations/seminars for local, state, national, and international organizations. Served the profession as an International Director for the Data Processing Management Association, track chair, session chair and topic chair at national and regional meetings, and as a referee for scholarly journals.
